The village is predominantly mediaeval, and lies between two rivers, the Oule and the Eygues (Eygues is provencal for “water”). The summer climate is beautiful, dry and hot in the day but, because of the altitude, cool enough at night to sleep. La Motte is dominated by the 12th century church, where concerts are held during the summer. There is a market every Monday morning, where local farmers sell their produce. There are some wonderful walks around the village, and swimming in the river or lake. Within an hour’s drive is the Vercors, the largest National Park in France, where you can walk for hours on easy terrain and be rewarded with the most wonderful vistas of mountains. For more serious mountain walkers, there are some wonderful peaks all with starting points within easy access of the house. We are close to the main vineyards of the Cotes du Rhone, Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueras and Cairanne, to name but a few. We can arrange tastings if you wish, or suggest itineraries if you want to explore on your own.
Spend a week with writers, publishers and artists in a beautiful hideaway in Northern Provence.
Our courses, which are fully inclusive, run in the morning, and afternoons can be spent
relaxing in the sun and exploring this wonderful area.
